Malawi President Peter Mutharika has delegated Second Vice President Enock Chihana to represent the country at the Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), scheduled for Monday, 29 June 2026.
The virtual summit is expected to bring together leaders from the 16 SADC member states and will commence at 5:00 p.m. Malawi time.
The meeting will be chaired by South African President and current SADC Chairperson, Cyril Ramaphosa.
Among the key issues on the agenda is the political and security situation in Madagascar. Deliberations will be guided by a report from the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, whose recent ministerial meeting was chaired by Vice President Chihana on behalf of President Mutharika.
Chihana’s participation underscores Malawi’s continued commitment to regional cooperation and collective efforts aimed at promoting peace, stability and democratic governance within the SADC region.
