Police in Mangochi have confirmed tragedy death of a one-year-old boy child Tonny Robert after his father accidentally ran over him while reversing a vehicle at their home.
According to Mangochi Police Public Relations Officer Amina Tepani Daudi the boy died on Sunday 11 October 2026, after sustaining severe head injuries in the incident at Mgundaphiri Village under Traditional Authority Mponda.
She said the the young boy was walking behind a Toyota Sienta, registration number BT 16967, when his 32-year-old father, Gilbert Robert, accidentally hit him while reversing.
When the child was rushed to Mangochi District Hospital, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Following the incident in Mangochi, police have urged motorists to take extra care when reversing or manoeuvring vehicles at home, particularly in places where young children may be playing or walking nearby.
