Barely 24 hours after being announced as the new Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS), Angel Lamya Chima has been sacked from her job.
Officials confirmed to Malawi Cables the dismissal of the veteran broadcaster at MBS on Friday evening.
No reasons were given by MBS for the sacking of Chima who only resumed work at the standards body on 5th October. She had earlier resigned from the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) where she worked for many years.
The MBS official announcement of her recruitment as PRO on Thursday, 22nd October drew public backlash following Angel Chima’s public knowledge that she has very strong links with the family of former President Lazarus Chakwera.
The Chakwera and Chima families enjoy close bonds for many years.
It is not known what becomes of Angel Chima now considering that she already resigned and retired from the national broadcaster, MBC.
When contacted by Malawi Cables on her mobile phone on Friday night, Chima confirmed her departure from MBS but did not give the reasons for her quick sacking.
“Please ask Director General Mr Symon Mandala for the reasons since the dismissal letter came from him,” she said in a brief interview.
When the Cables further contacted Mandala for comment, the MBS DG turned down our interview after this reporter introduced the subject matter.
