UTM leader Dalitso Kabambe has accused the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) of worse nepotism and corruption than the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), alleging that corruption has intensified under their government.
Kabambe said the DPP has left agriculture in ruins, doubled fuel prices and allowed forex shortages to cripple businesses, while ordinary Malawians suffer and the connected few allegedly enrich themselves abroad.
The DPP government is being accused of awarding awarding contracts to people from same region and connected to their party.
Kabambe then questioned Reserve Bank of Malawi figures showing over $600 million in foreign reserves, saying they do not reflect realities on the ground as forex shortages persist.
Currently the country is facing fuel shortage due to lack of forex which is opposite to RBM claim of foreign currency available in its foreign reserves.
Kabambe proposed that Malawi must put focus in investment of electric vehicles, citing that the country spends around $40 million to $60 million monthly on fuel imports.
The UTM leader has called for action against corrupt officials allegedly stashing stolen wealth abroad.
