As Nkhotakota District Council prepares to elect a new Council Chairperson in November, residents and some party members are questioning the integrity of the incumbent, Councillor Khofi.
Khofi, who previously belonged to MCP before moving to DPP, is facing public scrutiny following corruption allegations that rocked the district.
As Malawi Cables reported earlier, the Nkhotakota DC and some associates were arrested. We thank ACB and Malawi Police for acting swiftly.
They are now answering charges related to alleged corruption and money laundering, although we have heard the DC has since returned to office.
Councillor Khofi is NOT among those formally charged in court. However, multiple sources allege he has been mentioned in connection with decisions made during that period.
Sources allege Khofi switched allegiance to DPP in search of political protection.
“We want someone who will serve the people of Nkhotakota, not someone shielding himself,” said one community leader.
Inside DPP, some female members have privately expressed reservations about his candidacy due to integrity questions.
The council is yet to publish the official list of candidates.
