President Arthur Peter Mutharika has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships to support Malawi’s economic recovery.
He made the remarks on Thursday at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre during a meeting with newly promoted World Bank Regional Programme Director for Africa, Nathan Belete, and incoming Country Director for Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Tanzania, Firas Raad.
President Mutharika acknowledged ongoing efforts by his administration to stabilize the economy but noted that global pressures particularly geopolitical tensions in the Middle East continue to pose significant challenges. He appealed for sustained support from the World Bank to help cushion the country against these external shocks.
Speaking after the meeting, Dr. Belete pledged the Bank’s support through Rapid Response financing mechanisms, which are expected to help stabilize Malawi’s economy and steer it toward recovery.
The meeting was also attended by Minister of Finance Joseph Mwanamvekha, Secretary to the Treasury Cliff Chiunda, and other senior officials from the Ministry of Finance.
