Malawi President Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika has assured Malawians of his administration’s commitment to addressing key challenges, including fixing the struggling economy and ending persistent shortages of electricity, foreign exchange, and fuel.
Speaking today at Goliati in Thyolo District after attending a private memorial service for his late brother, former President Bingu wa Mutharika, Mutharika acknowledged that he inherited a government in a deteriorated state. However, he noted that significant progress has already been made, particularly in tackling food shortages within a short period.
On fuel supply, the President pointed to ongoing global challenges, including geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, saying these have affected not only Malawi but many other countries. Despite this, he expressed optimism that the situation will soon stabilize.
Mutharika also informed the gathering at Goliati of his productive discussions with the World Bank, emphasizing his renewed commitment to fixing the economy.
He concluded by stating that his administration has restored order and stability in the country. He added that Malawians are now able to enjoy their rights freely, contrasting this with a past in which critics of the Presidency or government faced violent intimidation.
