Cables, George Kasakula, the outgoing Director General of the national broadcaster, the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) blew millions of taxpayers money on a propaganda programme aimed at promoting former President Lazarus Chakwera and his Malawi Congress Party (MCP), we have established.

Kasakula, a staunch MCP supporter from the central region district of Kasungu, remains suspended from work as authorities investigate several misconducts against him including theft and fraud among many other crimes.

Documents we have sourced from the broadcaster indicate that between the months of April and August 2025, Kasakula, using former Director of Finance Jack Kamwachale Khomba and Financial Controller Monica Likoswe Mlungama spent a whooping Mk 180 million on a propaganda programme named Timvetse.

The documents in our possession show that in those 5 months, the money was paid to one Kelvin Mpekasambo, Humphrey Chimphando Mvula, George Kasakula, Blessings Cheleuka, Timothy Kateta and Blessings Kanache among others.

In almost all the documents, Kelvin Mpekasambo gets the lions share of the payments where the payment is detailed as; “Accommodation and T & T.”

On all documents in our possession, Kasakula is seen to have authorized payments to Mpekasambo of Mk 420,000 per programme.

In the same documents, one Humphrey Chimphando Mvula is noted to have received Mk 60,000 per programme whilst the other monies are indicated to have been picked by Kasakula, Kanache, Cheleuka and Kateta.

According to information in public domain, Kelvin Mpekasambo, Humphrey Chimphando Mvula and George Kasakula were the known analysts for the propaganda programme called Timvetse.

Blessings Kanache, Timothy Kateta and Blessings Cheleuka were the anchors for the programme used interchangeably.

Although the programme was described as analytical in nature, the panelists and hosts spent about 95 percent of their discussions insulting and attacking the personality of President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, members of his family as well as some senior members in the now governing Democratic Progressive Party.
