Mzimba Central Constituency Member of Parliament, Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba, has supported Euthini Rural Health Centre with K4.4 million paid to the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) to facilitate the upgrade of its electricity supply from a single-phase to a three-phase system.
In his speech, Engineer Mumba explained that the process had started several months earlier, when ESCOM delivered electricity poles and conducted an assessment.
The only outstanding requirement was payment to enable the utility company to replace the existing single-phase system with a three-phase supply.
Addressing members of the Health Advisory Committee (HAC) in the presence of several traditional leaders, Mumba pledged to work closely with the committee to address challenges facing the rural health centre.
He noted that since the introduction of ambulances last year, no one had died due to a lack of access to medical care, except on one occasion when the facility was unable to provide transport because of a fuel shortage.
Mumba also promised to engage the Ministry of Health to address staff shortages and other equipment-related needs at the facility.
The legislator is currently in his constituency, where he has lined up several engagements, including inspections of construction works at the Rukuru River Crossing and Luweya Bridge, as well as maintenance works at Chasengo Primary School, among other activities.
