First Lady Professor Gertrude Mutharika has expressed her delight and pride in the outstanding performance of Malawi’s women’s national football team, The Scorchers, at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Professor Mutharika said the team’s two consecutive victories demonstrate that The Scorchers travelled to the tournament with a clear determination to compete at the highest level and achieve success.
She also encouraged the players to remain focused, disciplined, and hardworking as they continue their campaign, urging them to set their sights on qualifying for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The Scorchers currently top Group C with six points after recording victories over Nigeria and Egypt in their opening two matches.
