Malawi Police Service has confirmed that four suspected Kidnappers were shot dead during the exchange of fire with Police in Mpemba around Chadzunda in Blantyre in an operation to rescue British national Nusrat Osman who was abducted at Mount Pleasant last Friday.
In a statement signed by Gladys Chiwaula, Malawi Police Service Public Relations Officer, the four suspected Kidnappers were armed with an AK47 rifle and a Girsan Regard MC pistol.
Police said the four were shot in an intelligence-led operation led to rescue of Osman, 47, and they were rushed to hospital but were later succumbed to their injuries.
The statement further said the Deputy Inspector General of Police Noel Kaira who also sustained gunshot injuries during the operation is in stable condition in hospital where he is receiving medical attention.
The Police statement meanwhile did not disclose the details of the four suspected Kidnappers as they did not provide their identities.
