Residents of Area 43, Sector 8, are raising serious concerns over what they describe as an attempted land grab involving Mr. Vincent Nyirongo and his wife.

According to the affected residents, Mr. Nyirongo is claiming ownership of nearly 20 plots, alleging that they were acquired through traditional authorities (Mafumu).
However, the residents say the same plots were officially allocated to them in 2014, and no competing ownership claims were made for many years stating that these claims have only recently emerged.
The residents further informed cables that Mr. Nyirongo has been intimidating them by claiming to have close political connections with senior government officials, including Cabinet ministers and the President, creating fear that no one can successfully challenge his claims.
Malawians elect governments to uphold the rule of law, protect property rights, and ensure equal treatment for all citizens not to allow individuals to use perceived political influence to dispossess others of their property.
The matter has already been reported to the Malawi Housing Corporation (MHC) Lilongwe Regional Office.
However, the residents say they have seen little or no action. They argue that if public officials are failing to act because of political pressure, it would represent a serious breach of public trust.
The affected residents are calling on the responsible minister, the Malawi Housing Corporation, the Anti-Corruption Bureau, where appropriate, and all other relevant authorities to conduct an impartial investigation, establish the lawful ownership of the disputed plots, and hold accountable anyone found to have acted unlawfully.
The residents maintain that they are the rightful owners of the Area 43, Sector 8 plots and are demanding justice, transparency, and equal protection under the law.
