The Consumers Association of Malawi (CAMA) has asked Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) to withdraw the recent increase in mobile data bundle tariffs by Airtel Malawi and TNM, saying its violation of the Communications Act of 2016.
In a Statement CAMA Chief Executive Officer John Kapita said MACRA approved the new tariffs without giving a seven days notice to the consumers as required by the law and on the same times consumers are struggling with the poor network quality in the country.
“These adjustment comes at a time when consumers are facing dropped calls, loss of data bundles and new taxes on mobile transactions,” Kapito says in a Statement.
CAMA has since given MACRA seven days to reverse the tariff increase and respond to their demands.
MACRA has not yet responded to the statement
