Malawi President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has delegated Second Vice President Enock Chihana to chair the Extraordinary Summit of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Organ Troika scheduled for 22 June 2026.
Malawi, in collaboration with the SADC Secretariat, will host the high-level meeting, which is expected to bring together Heads of State and Government, senior officials, and regional representatives to deliberate on peace and security issues affecting Southern Africa.
The summit will focus on key political and security developments within the region, with particular attention to strengthening SADC’s commitment to peace, stability, conflict prevention, and regional integration. Discussions are also expected to assess ongoing efforts aimed at promoting democratic governance and maintaining regional security.
President Mutharika currently serves as Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, a position Malawi assumed following his election as President in 2025. The Organ plays a central role in coordinating regional responses to political, defence, and security challenges among SADC member states.
This is not the first time President Mutharika has delegated representation at a SADC meeting. During the Extraordinary SADC summit held in December 2025, he delegated First Vice President Dr. Jane Ansah, who presided over discussions concerning the political and security situation in Madagascar on behalf of Malawi.
The upcoming summit underscores Malawi’s growing role in regional diplomacy and its continued commitment to advancing SADC’s agenda of peace, security, and sustainable development across Southern Africa.
