Government says number of Malawians affected by xenophobic attacks in South Africa has risen from 10 000 people to 15000.
Commissioner of Disaster Management Affairs Wilson Moleni told the Media that over 2000 Malawians have been repatriated back home now.
Moleni said more buses have been sent to South Africa to repartriate more Malawians and pleaded for support from well wishers to help government in repatriating affected Malawians.
Speaking when he visited repatriated people today at Kamuzu Stadium Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr George Chaponda said government is concerned with challenges Malawians are facing in South Africa.
“Our government will not allow Malawians to continue suffering in South Africa we will rescue them all and once they arrived in the country, we will support them financially to settle down so that they should not return to South Africa.”
Chaponda said government will continue sending more buses to South Africa to repartriate the Malawians facing xenophobic attacks.
