The Department of Human Resource Management and Development has removed 298 teachers from the September 2026 payroll for failing to attend a personnel audit verification exercise which was being conducted with an aim of verifying government employees and flushing out ghost workers from the payroll.
According to the letter from the Ministry of Education, signed by Norah Chikhungu on behalf of the Secretary for Education, 298 teachers and officers have been removed from the payroll for failing to undergo verification.
Through that letter, the Ministry has directed all Directors, Heads of Institutions and Education Division Managers to urgently inform the affected officers to appear in person for verification at the HR Department offices at Capital Hill in Lilongwe from 25th to 29th September, 2026.
When coming those affected officers are required to bring original copies of their offer letters, promotion letters, academic certificates, National ID, PSR 19, confirmation letters and authority to teach.
The Department has been conducting a nationwide personnel audit for all civil servants in the past months.
