
Police in Mangochi district have arrested two people traditional healer and kabaza operator for illegal possession of a live pangolin which is a protected species.
Mangochi Police Spokesperson Amina Tepani Daudi has identified the suspects as Amin Ngosi, 62, and Moses George, 44, both from Kambulire Village, Traditional Authority Chimwala in the district.
“The two were arrested on the evening of August 11, 2026, at Changali along the APM Highway following a tip-off that they were in possession of a live pangolin,” said Daudi.
Police and Department of National Parks and Wildlife officials found the animal hidden in a carton. Ngosi allegedly kept it for three days for traditional medicine before agreeing with George to transport it to Chilipa.
According to Daudi the two will face charges under Section 110(b) of the National Parks and Wildlife Act.
