Police in Karonga have arrested a 36-year-old Chinese national, Yekai Liao, for allegedly operating an online business without a licence.
Karonga Police Station Public Relations Officer, Rose Chipyola, said the arrest follows a tip-off that foreign nationals are running an online international business from a lodge in the district.
Chipyola said that upon searching the lodge, detectives found 20 desktop computers, 20 keyboards, and 20 MiFi devices which have been confiscated pending further examination.
She said, Liao accepted that he running the business which he did not provide a satisfactory explanation but disclosed to have 11 employees comprising of 9 Malawian nationals and 2 Nigerian nationals who worked from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am.
