Minister of Homeland Security, Hon. Peter Mukhito, has begun a four-day inspection tour of the Northern Region, with a strong warning against corruption and the misuse of public resources in government projects.
Mukhito, accompanied by Deputy Minister Hon. Norman Chisale, commenced the tour in Karonga on Monday, 30 August 2026, where he inspected key departments and development projects under his ministry.
The minister began his programme with a visit to the Immigration Department at 8:30am before proceeding to Karonga Prison, where he inspected a newly constructed cell block.
During the visit, Mukhito donated K2 million towards ongoing development works at the prison, saying the contribution was intended to support infrastructure improvements and enhance service delivery as government strengthens the country’s security institutions.
Mukhito also issued a stern warning against corruption in the implementation of government projects, emphasising that public resources must be used for their intended purposes and deliver tangible benefits to Malawians.
The minister is accompanied by Deputy Minister responsible for Gender, Hon. Martha Mzomera Ngwira, and DPP Northern Region Governor, Christopher Mzomera Ngwira.
He is expected to continue inspecting departments and security-related projects in Karonga before proceeding to other districts across the Northern Region.
According to the Ministry of Homeland Security, the tour is aimed at assessing progress on development projects, strengthening oversight and evaluating service delivery across departments under the ministry.
