Police in Chitipa have arrested a 46 years-old man for allegedly being found in possession of counterfeit 7,200 Zambian Kwacha and 10, 000 Tanzanian Shillings.
According to Chitipa Police Public Relations Officer Mathews Mfune the suspect Mutima Nyondo was arrested on 8 September 2026 following a tip-off from well wishers.
Mfune said detectives tracked Nyondo to Chitipa Trading Center, upon questioned Nyondo led the Police to a Lodge where the money, Zambian Kwacha and Tanzanian Shillings recovered and all suspected to be counterfeit.
He added that, the Police have seized the money and is being kept as an exhibit and investigations continues to establish where the suspected counterfeit currency came from or if there are other people involved.
