Malawians have been encouraged to shed self-doubt and confidently pursue international excellence across a wide range of sporting disciplines.
The call was made by Malawian martial artist Khama Cullisto Matumbi following his international recognition as an award-winning athlete and his attainment of a prestigious black belt at the Shotokan Karate International (SKISA) Gala Awards Banquet 2026 held in Durban, South Africa.
In an interview with MIJ Online, Matumbi described the achievement as a significant milestone reflecting years of discipline, resilience, and dedication to martial arts.
He emphasized that Malawians possess the talent and determination needed to compete and succeed on the global stage, urging aspiring athletes not to underestimate their potential.
“Malawians must not look down upon themselves. We have what it takes to achieve global recognition in sports if we remain disciplined and committed,” he said.
Beyond his accomplishments in martial arts, Matumbi is also recognized for his role as a personal bodyguard to prominent figures, including former Vice President Saulos Chilima and UTM Party member Dalitso Kabambe. His professional journey reflects a strong commitment to discipline, excellence, and service both within and beyond the sporting arena.
