HRDC IS BACK WITH DEMONSTRATIONS DEMANDING RESIGNATION OF MINISTER OF ENERGY OVER FUEL CRISIS

Andy Ten November 2, 2026 (Last updated: November 2, 2026)

The Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) says it will hold demonstrations in Lilongwe, Zomba and Mzuzu on November 17, 2026, to demand the resignation of Minister of Energy over persistent fuel shortages and electricity blackouts.

According to a statement signed by HRDC Vice Chairperson Madalitso Banda and National Coordinator Kelvin Chirwa, the demonstrations follow continued difficulties in accessing fuel and unreliable electricity supply.

Statement said the Minister assured Malawians that the situation would normalise by October 20, 2026, but there has been no meaningful improvement as fuel accessibility remains a problem and electricity blackouts continues.

They said that the Minister has failed to demonstrate leadership in addressing the crisis hence they are demanding her resignation.
