37-YEAR-OLD MAN ARRESTED IN LILONGWE FOR PRODUCING COUNTERFEIT FERTILIZER AT A SITE IN MCHEZI

Following a two-month investigation Kanengo Police in Lilongwe have arrested Winston Kamatenda, 37, for allegedly producing counterfeit fertiliser at a site in Mchezi.

According to Kanengo Police Public Relations Officer MacFarlane Mseteka, arrest follows a two-month investigation, which began after police recovered 650 bags of suspected counterfeit fertiliser from different agro-dealer shops.

Mseteka said Kamatenda was allegedly mixing lime, soil, expired fertiliser and water to produce the counterfeit fertiliser, which was then packaged in sacks resembling those of recognised fertilizer companies.

Police have recovered 10 bags of the suspected counterfeit fertiliser at the production site, in addition to the 650 bags seized during the earlier operation.
