Police in Dowa have arrested a 49 years old man, Rickson Maidaida of Jumbe village Traditional Authority Chiwere for allegedly defiling his 5-years old daughter at Chavu village in the district.
Alice Sitima, Dowa Police Public Relations Officer said the arrest follows a report from the victim’s mother who informed the police that the suspect her ex-husband divorced five years ago and visited his children occasionally and spend nights at the house.
Sitima said earlier this week the man slept in kitchen and the following day while the mother was away, he sexually assaulted his daughter.
The mother found the man in act when she was returning home and she checked the child and observed blood strain and strange fluid on her legs.
Upon medical examination at Dowa District Hospital it was confirmed that the child was sexually abused.
The suspect is expected to appear before the court soon to answer charges leveled against him.
