Cables have exclusively established that Ms. Tamara Munthali died from acute kidney failure, contrary to widely circulated social media claims alleging that she died while undergoing cosmetic body enlargement surgery in South Africa.
Information we have gathered from a close family member indicates that Munthali was first diagnosed with malaria at Blantyre Adventist Hospital, where she received treatment before travelling to Medclinic in Sandton, South Africa, for a medical review.
While in South Africa, doctors diagnosed her with acute kidney failure and immediately placed her on dialysis for several weeks.
Despite receiving specialist medical care, she later succumbed to complications arising from the condition.
The findings contradict some social media posts that falsely claimed Munthali had travelled to South Africa for body enlargement surgery and died during the procedure.
Cables has established that the claims are false and that her death resulted from complications of acute kidney failure.
Munthali held a Master’s degree in Strategic Management and served as Director of Projects and Social Services at the Malawi Gaming and Lotteries Authority, where she oversaw various development and social service programmes.
Her death has shocked many Malawians, with tributes pouring in from colleagues, friends and members of the public, who have described her as a dedicated professional whose contribution to national development will be remembered.
Meanwhile! funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in due course.
