Mponela Magistrate court in Dowa has sentenced a 45-year-old man, Amos Nefitale, to 14 years in prison after being convicted of defiling a nine-year-old girl.
Mponela Police Public Relations Officer Macpatson Msadala said the offence was committed in July this year in Kasereka Village under Senior Chief Kayembe in Dowa, when the girl was playing with her friends.
Msadala said Nefitale called the girl and took her to his house, where he sexually abused her and was caught by a friend while committing the offence.
The matter was later reported to the girl’s mother, who lodged a complaint at Kalipano Police Unit, leading to Nefitale’s arrest.
When he was brought before the court Nefitale was found guilty of defiling a young girl and was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment.
Nefitale hails from M’bang’ombe Village under Senior Chief Chitukula in Lilongwe.
