Vice President Dr Jane Mayemu Ansah is today, August 6, leading the distribution of relief items to vulnerable households in the area of Paramount Chief Chikulamayembe in Rumphi District through the Dr Jane Ansah Foundation.
The relief initiative is aimed at complementing the Mutharika led DPP government efforts to support food-insecure families, particularly those affected by economic hardships and poor harvests. The assistance is expected to provide immediate relief to households struggling to meet their basic food needs while helping improve the welfare of some of the district’s most vulnerable people.
During her visit, Dr Ansah is also expected to engage with local cooperatives, encouraging farmers and community groups to increase food production. She is expected to emphasize the importance of embracing productive farming practices, strengthening cooperative movements, and improving agricultural output to enhance household food security and create sustainable sources of income.
The initiative comes at a time when many Malawians continue to face rising living costs and food insecurity, making both emergency assistance and increased agricultural production critical. By combining relief support with efforts to promote self-reliance through farming, the programme seeks to reduce dependence on food aid while empowering communities to build resilient livelihoods.
