UTM’s Kaliati Applauds APM Government on Thuchira Bridge

I would like to sincerely commend the State President, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, and the Minister of Transport and Public Works, Honourable Jappie Mhango, for the commitment and keen interest they have demonstrated in ensuring the completion of the Thuchira Bridge. For many years, this bridge has posed serious transportation challenges, and it is encouraging to note that it is now set to be completed by the end of July.

This bridge plays a vital role in connecting communities and supporting economic activities, particularly for traders and local businesses from districts such as Mulanje, Chiradzulu, Thyolo, and Blantyre, who depend on it for the daily movement of goods and services.

The restoration of the Thuchira Bridge is more than just an infrastructure project—it is a lifeline that will enhance mobility, strengthen trade routes, and improve access to essential services such as healthcare, education, and markets. It also reflects the government’s broader commitment to improving rural connectivity and uplifting the livelihoods of ordinary Malawians.
