Pressure is mounting on the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to launch an independent investigation into Blantyre Water Board (BWB) Board Chairperson Stanley Chirwa following allegations of abuse of office, interference in procurement processes, and breaches of corporate governance principles.
At the centre of the allegations is the reported cancellation of a key tender opening process after procurement officials allegedly raised concerns that the exercise did not comply with established procurement procedures and legal requirements.
The incident has reportedly raised concern among some stakeholders and board members, who spoke on condition of anonymity, claiming that the developments may have undermined transparency, accountability, and the integrity of the Board’s procurement system.
Stakeholders are now urging the ACB to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation to determine whether public procurement laws, corporate governance standards, and other applicable legal provisions were violated.
They argue that an independent inquiry is necessary not only to establish the facts but also to restore public confidence in the management of the Blantyre Water Board and ensure that public institutions remain accountable in the use of public resources.
Neither Stanley Chirwa nor the Blantyre Water Board had responded to the allegations at the time of publication.
