Security Lapse Raises An Alarm In The Country-CDEDI

Andy Ten July 15, 2026 (Last updated: July 15, 2026)

Center for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) has called on the Parliament’s Defence and Security Committee to investigate an alleged security lapse in the country after Tanzanian Vessel reported entered Malawi’s water territory and docked at Monkey Bay without being detected.

CDEDI in a letter dated 14th July 2026 urged authorities to summon the leaders of Malawi Defence Forces, Malawi Police Service and National Intelligence Service to explain why the foreign Vessel entered unnoticed in the country.

The letter further said that the reported incident raises questions about effectiveness of marine security in the country and its intelligence hence Parliamentary committee has to establish whether it was negligence among the authorities at the security department or operation failures.

Security bodies in the country are yet to respond to the incident.

The Tanzanian Vessel was reported seen at the Monkey Bay carrying coal saying was to be transported to Balaka by road.
