
The Roads Authority has issued a notice of intention to award contracts to two companies for the rehabilitation of the Chiweta–Karonga road.
According to the notice dated October 8 2026, Unik Construction Engineering Limited has been recommended for a K326.1 billion contract for Lot 1 of the road rehabilitation project.
The company will rehabilitate the 53-kilometre Chiweta–Wovwe Bridge road section in Rumphi and Karonga districts.
China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation will be awarded a K261 billion contract for Lot 2, covering 52 kilometres of the Wovwe Bridge–Karonga road section in Karonga District.
The authority says in accordance with section 70 (1) of the Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Act of 2025, bidders have until midnight on October 22 2026 to request a debriefing concerning the evaluation of their bids.
