Malawi President Arthur Peter Mutharika has appointed new members of Malawi’s Judicial Service Commission, with the appointments taking effect immediately, according to a press release issued from Capital Hill on 6 May 2026.
The announcement says the President acted under section 117 of the Constitution of Malawi.
The commission will be chaired by the Chief Justice and includes the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission and the Solicitor General as ex-officio members.
Other appointed members named in the release are Justice Ophrah Dorothy Kamanga, Justice Violet Palikena Chipao, Her Worship Ellen Chapita, Edith Chikagwa, Patrice Hanif, Chikosa Banda, Rabiya Hanif, and Victor Chagunyuka Mhango.
The appointment of the Judicial Service Commission is key as it enhances judicial oversight and functions.
