
The Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare has strongly condemned the killing of doctor Atughanile Chomo a medical doctor at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital at her house in Blantyre.
In a statement signed by the Ministry Principal Secretary, Esmie Tamanda Kainja, says Chomo’s death is a great loss to the nation considering her contribution to the national development.
The statement further said that the death of Dr Chomo is a setback to the government’s efforts of pushing for a girls and women empowerment in the country.
Ministry has also commended the Malawi Police Service for quick response on the matter as they have already arrested one suspect Macmillan Mvevula 25, and called for stiffer punishment for all who would be found guilty on the matter.
Dr Chomo’s body has been laid to rest and her home village in Chitipa.
