Ministry of Health and Sanitation will conduct nationwide Measles-Rubella vaccination campaigns from today to 25 September 2026 targeting children between 9 months to 9 years old with an aim of protecting over 5.8 million children.
The campaign was officially launched by the Minister of Health and Sanitation, Hon. Madalitso Baloyi, MP, at Lumbira Ground in Blantyre on 18th September 2026.
On the launch the Minister of Health and Sanitation urged parents and caregivers to bring all eligible children for vaccination, including those who may have received a measles-rubella vaccine previously, stressing that the campaign is intended to close existing immunity gaps.
Vaccination teams will provide services through health facilities, outreach sites, schools, communities and other convenient locations.
During this period the Ministry will also be providing Vitamin A supplementation to eligible children aged 6 to 59 months.
The campaign comes amid measles-rubella outbreaks reported in several districts, with 376 confirmed cases recorded as of August 2026, particularly affecting children under 10 years.
