Malawi President Arthur Peter Mutharika has emphasized that Malawians are more concerned with economic stability, fuel availability, foreign exchange, and development than political rallies.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Brian Banda, Director General of Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), Mutharika said his administration is focused on rebuilding the country’s economy.
“We inherited a broken economy and government,” he said. “Our priority now is to fix it, and it is only right that we concentrate on that.”
When asked why he has not been holding “thank you” rallies, Mutharika said the time for such activities has passed, stressing the need for prudent use of resources.
“Malawians have had enough of political rallies. What they need now is the delivery of our promises. We cannot afford to waste time on rallies instead of fixing the nation,” he added.
The president also addressed rumors about his health, dismissing claims that he is unwell or hospitalized in South Africa.
“I am healthy and strong,” he said. “I am like a cat with nine lives. Everyone will die eventually it’s just a matter of when and how.”
Mutharika further revealed that he plans to travel to Ndata for a private family prayer function and will make a brief stop at Goliati to greet people on his way back to Blantyre.
