Blantyre City Mayor Isaac Jomo Osman has described Malawi’s fuel shortage as deeply distressing, urging Malawians to turn to God in prayer as the country continues to grapple with the crisis.
Osman said the situation was becoming increasingly frustrating, expressing disbelief at how the country’s powerful leaders could remain at peace while ordinary citizens endure mounting hardships.
“To our friends in positions of power, are you really sleeping peacefully amid all this?” Osman questioned.
He further highlighted the suffering of people spending long hours at filling stations in search of fuel, saying their experiences on the ground were far removed from the comfort enjoyed by some leaders.
“Perhaps some of you are in your comfort zones, but for those of us on the ground, things are not going well,” Osman said.
The Blantyre mayor has called on Malawians to dedicate time to praying for the country, particularly as the fuel shortage continues to cause frustration and hardship among citizens.
His remarks underscore growing concerns over the impact of the fuel crisis on the daily lives of ordinary Malawians.
