
Government has committed K600 million to the Malawi Women football team Scorchers participation in this year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations to be played in Morocco.
Speaking at the Scorchers send-off and fundraising dinner at Bingu International Convention Center (BICC) in Lilongwe Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Fleetwood Haiya said they are targeting K1 billion to carter for the team’s accommodation and air travel expenses and government has already committed K600 million for the team.
Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Alfred Gangata has asked the corporate world and individuals to support the Scorchers ahead of WAFCON finals.
Gangata said the Scorchers deserves all the support being its first qualification to the tournament.
The Scorchers are in group C together with defending champions Nigeria, Egypt and Zambia.
