German Ambassador to Malawi, Ute König, today paid a courtesy call on Second Vice-President Enock Chihana, where the two discussed strengthening cooperation in skills development, industrialisation, health and humanitarian assistance.
During the meeting, Chihana underscored the critical role of the Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TEVETA) in driving Malawi’s industrialisation agenda. He emphasized that expanding technical and vocational skills is essential to creating a productive workforce, reducing youth unemployment and attracting investment.
The Second Vice-President appealed to the German government to increase its support for technical and vocational education, particularly through investment in skills training programmes, innovation hubs and modern training centres that would equip young Malawians with industry-relevant skills.
Ambassador König welcomed Malawi’s development agenda under the Malawi 2063 vision, describing it as a strong framework for achieving sustainable and inclusive economic growth. She reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to supporting Malawi’s development priorities, particularly in the health sector and humanitarian assistance, while expressing readiness to continue working with the government in areas of mutual interest.
The meeting highlighted the long-standing partnership between Malawi and Germany, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to deepening cooperation in human capital development, economic transformation and sustainable development.
