Ministry of Health and Sanitation said the country is making significant progress in fighting against viral Hepatitis.
The ministry made the remarks in the marking the World Hepatitis Day 2026 being observed under the theme “Hepatitis: Let’s Break it Down.”
According to the statement, some of the notable strides were made: integrating Hepatitis B vaccine into routine immunisation and expanding screening among priority populations.
In a statement signed by Secretary for Health Dr. Dan Namalika, despite the significant made, there are some challenges still being faced like limited awareness, stigma, and low uptake of testing.
” We need to break down stigma, barrier to testing and inadequate in access to prevention and care ,” said Namalika.
The Ministry has said the general public must be aware of their hepatitis status as early diagnosis save lives.
According to the World Health Organisations Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver commonly caused by viral infection, heavy alcohol use, and immune system disorder
