TRIBAL WAR!
A Tumbuka exits Blantyre Water Board, and a Lomwe from Mangunda, Thyolo, Henry Bakuwa, is set to take over as the new Chief Executive Officer.
But Bakuwa’s return to the water utility comes with a history that raises questions.
In 2022, Bakuwa was among senior managers placed on forced leave at Malawi Gaming Board while investigations were conducted into a previously undisclosed bank account through which transactions of more than K600 million had reportedly been made and vanished .
Bakuwa later made allegations concerning payments to politicians in submissions to the Auditor General.
Those allegations were denied by the named politicians, while the Gaming Board said the Auditor General’s findings did not substantiate the allegations of payments to ministers, politicians or public officials.
The Board nevertheless said disciplinary proceedings against Bakuwa concerned financial matters.
Exit a Tumbuka. Enter a Lomwe.
Tribal war or simply another controversial appointment to facilitate theft of tax payers money ?
