Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Hon. Ben Phiri, has donated K300,000 to support a small-scale entrepreneur from Chirimba, Blantyre, popularly known as Dr. Aido, in an effort to expand his push-wheelbarrow business in line with the President Peter Mutharika’s administration community empowerment program.
The support came after a photograph of Dr. Aido and his wheelbarrow circulated widely on social media, highlighting his determination to earn a living through self-employment despite economic challenges. The image reportedly caught the attention of the Minister, who responded by offering financial assistance to help strengthen the business.
The donation was officially presented on the Minister’s behalf by Greyson Chapita.
Speaking during the presentation, the gesture was described as President Arthur Peter Mutharika’s vision and part of Hon. Ben Phiri’s commitment to promoting community empowerment and supporting hardworking Malawians who are striving to improve their livelihoods through entrepreneurship.
The initiative also reflects the Mutharika’s government’s emphasis on encouraging self-reliance, creating economic opportunities at the grassroots level, and supporting community-driven development under the leadership of Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.
The assistance has been welcomed as an example of how targeted support can help small entrepreneurs grow their businesses and contribute to local economic development.
