The government of President Arthur Peter Mutharika, through the Ministry of Education, has announced that the Treasury has released K3.8 billion of the projected K10 billion allocated to support free secondary education in public schools this term.
Minister of Education Bright Msaka stated that, as classes for free secondary education commence today, the ministry will be monitoring enrollment trends to determine if there is a need to recruit additional teachers.
During his campaign, President Mutharika promised Malawians that, once in office, his administration would ensure free secondary education so that no child is denied the opportunity to achieve their dreams due to lack of fees.
With schools reopening today, the President has fulfilled this promise, and all government secondary schools are now offering free education.
