MP Norman Chisale Hands Over 200 Boreholes to Ntcheu Central East Communities
Member of Parliament Norman Chisale has handed over 200 boreholes to communities in his Ntcheu Central East Constituency as part of an ongoing effort to improve access to clean and safe water in the area .
Of the 200 boreholes, 100 have been allocated to communities under Senior Traditional Authority Makwangwala, while the remaining 100 are benefiting residents under Traditional Authority Champiti.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Chisale said the project forms part of a broader development initiative aimed at drilling 500 boreholes across the constituency by December this year. He noted that access to clean water remains one of the major challenges affecting many rural communities, forcing people especially women and children to walk long distances in search of safe drinking water.
According to Chisale, the borehole initiative is expected to ease water shortages, improve sanitation and hygiene, and help reduce waterborne diseases in the area.
Beyond the water project, the legislator has also extended support to the education sector through a donation of 1,500 bags of maize flour to Kutha kwa Anansi Primary School to support school feeding programmes and vulnerable learners.
In a further push to improve learning conditions, Chisale distributed 5,000 textbooks, 18 bicycles for teachers, soap, and 5,000 cartons of chalk to schools within the constituency.
He said the interventions are aimed at creating a better learning environment for both teachers and students while also supporting community welfare and development.
Traditional leaders and community members have since commended the MP for the initiatives, describing them as timely interventions that will positively impact education, health, and livelihoods in the constituency.
