
The Malawi Police Service has arrested two Mozambican nationals at Kamuzu Bridge Roadblock in Chikwawa after they allegedly attempted to bypass the checkpoint carrying illegal firearms and offensive weapons.
In a statement signed by Malawi Police Public Relations Officer Senior Superintendent Gladys Chiwaula Police officers arrested the two on Sunday after noticing them attempting to bypass the roadblock.
The statement has identified the suspects as Julio Aromado, 25, and Steven George, 30, who were allegedly found with an AK-47 rifle, two pistols, a Heckler and Koch gun, a pick, a panga knife and a pound hammer.
According to Chiwaula, police recovered the weapons from the suspects and warned that anyone found in possession of illegal firearms and offensive weapons will face the law.
Through the statement Malawi Police Service also reminded the public that the amnesty period for surrendering illegal firearms to the police remains in force.
