There is an interesting and potentially explosive scenario unfolding at the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) under the Ministry of Justice.

Cables can confidently reveal .

The prosecution team currently handling cases at the Directorate is largely the same team that, during the MCP administration, took instructions to prosecute officials and associates of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government.

The dilemma now is that some of those same prosecutors are expected to take instructions from the very DPP officials they previously prosecuted, as they pursue cases against members and officials of the former MCP administration.

This has reportedly created tension and confusion within the prosecution office a development which has seen some cases delaying or not taken to court due to conflict of interest arising from the dramatic change in political circumstances.

There are also reports that some cases involving former MCP government officials are deliberately not being taken to court, potentially paving the way for technical discharges due to delays or failure to prosecute.

The unfolding scenario has placed the DPP’s office in an awkward position as prosecutors who previously acted on instructions from one political administration are now expected to act on instructions from officials of the administration that was previously on the receiving end of their prosecutions.
