SMEDCO EYES ON REVIVING IDLE FACTORY MACHINERY INTO OPERATIONS

The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Corporation (SMEDCO) formerly SMEDI has launched a nationalwide initiatives to revive factory machinery that have remained idle for many years.

SMEDCO chief executive officer Kondwani Kachamba said the Corporation is committed to restore the idle equipments into operations to boost production that stimulate economic activities.

“We have seen potential that these machines can bring to communities and SMEDCO is ready to work on restoring them so they can once again contribute to economic activity,” said Kachamba.

Kachamba said the initiative is in line with president Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika vision of economically empowering communities, promoting local production and strengthen small and medium sized enterprises.

The assessment on tools was conducted in Thyolo, Zomba and Machinga districts found rice, juice and maize flour processing machinery that has been out of use for more than 17 years.
