Malawi’s Vice President, Dr. Jane Mayemu Ansah, has sent a strong message of encouragement to the Malawi Women’s National Football Team, the Scorchers, ahead of their crucial WAFCON semi-final clash against Algeria.
In a special message issued ahead of the match, Ansah said she joins President Arthur Peter Mutharika and First Lady Professor Gertrude Mutharika in wishing the Scorchers success as they carry Malawi’s flag on the continental stage.
The Vice President urged the players to give everything on the pitch, fight for every ball and believe in themselves.
“Go out there and give it your all. Fight for every ball, believe in yourselves and carry the Malawi flag with pride.”
Ansah also assured the team that Malawians are behind them and praying for their success, ending her message with a rallying call:
“All the best, Scorchers! Make Malawi proud!”
The Scorchers’ historic run at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations has captured the imagination of Malawians, with the team now standing just one victory away from reaching the tournament final. The team’s rise follows Malawi’s historic qualification for the WAFCON finals for the first time.
As the nation waits for the semi-final showdown, the message from the Vice President adds to the growing national support for a team that has become a source of pride for Malawi.
