Government Through DoDMA To Conclude Repatriation Of Malawians From South Africa Exercise by 12 August 2026

Malawi government through Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) has announced that it will conclude the process of repartriating Malawians affected by xenophobic attacks in South Africa by 12 August 2026.

In a statement signed by Wilson Moleni, commissioner for Disaster Management Affairs final buses carrying Malawians will leave Malawi Consulate in Johannesburg and Malawi High Commission in Pretoria at 12:00pm on Wednesday 12 August.

According to DoDMA since the reception of the process 56, 723 Malawians have been voluntarily brought back home of which 38, 866 are men, 17, 857 are women, 3,988 are children under five years old and 694 are pregnant women.

The statement further said that during the process they have recorded 7 deaths.

Government has assured those willing to return home after conclusion of this government led voluntarily repatriation that it’s Embassies will continue assisting them with required documents for free for a reasonable transitional period.

Malawians and other foreigners in South Africa started running away from there amid increase in attacks on foreigners by people of South Africa.
