Police in Mzuzu have arrested Rita Mkandawire following social media posts falsely claiming that she has been murdered.
Northern Region Police Spokesperson Cecilia Mfune said Mkandawire and her 5 years old son were found safe at a Lodge in Ngala Trading center in Karonga district after her husband reported of her missing on 28th July 2026 in Mzuzu.
Mfune said Mkandawire has been charged with fraud related offences previously reported to Lingadzi and Mzuzu Police Stations.
Mfune added that the police are yet to charge Mkandawire with giving false information in connection with her disappearance and she will appear in court after completion of investigations.
Mkandawire who is 31 years old helds from Mtowela Ifwa Sangala village, Traditional Authority Wasambo in Karonga district
