Musicians Union of Malawi (MUM) president Vita Chirwa has commended some of the country’s musicians for supporting government in its effort to repartriate Malawians stranded in South Africa following attacks on foreigners there.
Chirwa hailed musicians like Lulu, Kell Kay, Liso, Patience Namadingo and other musicians for providing financial support and fundraising initiatives to help the struggling Malawians who are in camps in the rainbow nation.
Recently Namadingo wrote on his Facebook page that his heart was heavy, thinking of struggling Malawians and promised to do something on it.
Today he told the nation through his same Facebook page that he is going to donate K30 million he managed to raise from over 9000 people and the money will be donated to the initiative of repartriating Malawians led by Mr Onjezani Kenani.
“Our first donation to Mr Onjezani Kenani will be done on Tuesday, K30 million collected from over 9000 people in less than 50 hours of Live Streaming,” says Namadingo.
Currently government says over 20 thousand Malawians have been brought back home and many more are expected to be repatriated as more buses are being sent to South Africa.
